The California Club Calf Association was created to showcase California bred and raised cattle in a class of their own.  It is the intention of the association to reward the 4-H and FFA exhibitors in such a way to promote interest in California bred cattle.  The Association is offering a cash award to the winner of both the 4-H and FFA California Club Calf Bred Class at various Jackpot shows and State Fair.  A large check/banner along with the cash award will be given out at the actual shows by the CCCA for the Champions.  The Association will promote the class throughout the year with all members’ names and addresses listed in ads purchased in various Junior Livestock publications.  Cost for all promotional materials will be covered by the membership dues and revenue from ear tags.

The CCCA will follow the rules and protocol of the shows that it is participating in. At State Fair there will consist of one FFA Champion and one 4H Champion.  At the jackpots we will have one Supreme Champion and one Reserve Supreme Champion.  All monetary distribution will be decided on by the board of directors according to the funds that the association has available.

:: Jackpots ::
The Association will ask each show that it is participating in to bring back in the top 2 placing CCCA steers of there respected divisions to pick division champion and reserve champion.  At the end of all divisions we will select a Supreme Champion and Reserve Supreme Champion.

:: State Fair ::
State Fair is broken up into two divisions, FFA and 4H.  Therefore, we will only select a Champion FFA and a Champion 4H steer.  The Association will ask to bring back in the top placing steer from each class of there respected divisions to select a CCCA division champion.  After the selection of the Champion FFA or 4H we will bring back in the CCCA division champions and select our a champion in both FFA/4H.

:: Board of Directors ::

At all times, the Board of Directors will act with integrity, abiding by the rules and setting an example for all exhibitors and their families.  The board will oversee and enforce all regulations and requirements.

The California Club Calf Association will be governed by a Board of Directors who will hold their seats for two consecutive years.  Three of the founding Board will hold their seats for three years so that at any given time there will not be a completely new board; allowing two or three members of  the board to be replaced every other year.  Members may reapply for a board position.  Board members must fill out an application and will be elected via mail-in ballots by a majority vote of all members in good standing.  Applications for board positions will be accepted no later than July 15, mailed to members by August 1, returned by August 15 with the new board members to be announced and take office at an annual meeting to be held in Sacramento .

The Board of Directors will consist of five members; President, 1st Vice-president, 2nd Vice President, Secretary/Treasurer and Sergeant at Arms.

The Board of Directors is the governing body of the association, enforcing all rules, accepting all financial responsibilities, overseeing cattle eligibility, approving all membership, and mediating all disputes.  The decisions of the Board of Directors will be considered final.

:: Members ::
$500 dues are due and payable January 1 of each year.  Any member whose dues are not paid in full by January 15 of each year will be deemed ineligible for that calendar year.

Herd inventory list must be received along with the dues each year.  The association will be required to keep a current head count and accurate description of the members herd.  Non-compliance will mean disqualification.

:: Non Members ::
All non-members must abide by ALL rules that a member abides by, in order to purchase the $175 ear tags.  A non-member will have no ability to vote.  As a non-member you will not be included in any advertisements or promotional activities.  A non-member is eligible for all sanctioned shows chosen by the CCCA.

:: Cattle Eligibility ::
All cattle in order to be shown as a CCCA steer must be born and raised in the herd of a member of the Association.  If a California breeder has a small herd and does not want to become a member but has a calf that they would like to enroll they must abide by all the rules that a member follows for calf eligibility, and pay $175 per ear tag for the non-member fee.

Eligible cattle must wear an association ear tag, available from the association at a cost of $5 an ear tag for members. You may receive an order form for the ear tags by going on line or contacting the Association at 805-595-1416, John or Heather.  The order form will require an accurate description of the calf/calves to be tagged.  In order to qualify the owners must request the ear tags by June 1 of the qualifying year.  For example, June 01, 2006 is for the 2007 show season.

All winning calves will be subjected to a DNA test to verify the calf to the cow, and the cow to the CCCA Herd files.

Embryos from your herd are eligible, as well as embryos purchased from other association members. If you purchase embryos from An Association member you must have a copy of the embryo certificate or bill of sale when you send in the application form for the ear tags.

The donor cow must be in the state of California .  The donor cow must be in the possession of and owned by a member of the California Club Calf Association.

If a calf’s eligibility is in question, the Board of Directors maintains the right to request a DNA sample from the dam and calf in question.  Once notified the owner will be given three days to comply with the request or relinquish eligibility in the contest.  Cost will be covered by the association unless the calf is found ineligible, at which time the breeder will be billed for the expenses and membership will be reviewed by the Board of Directors with the possibility of expulsion.

Cows with multiple owners are eligible as long as the association member has possession of the cow in the state of California , in his herd, available for testing at all times.

In the unfortunate event of a dam’s death or if the dam is being sold, notification must be made to the association within fifteen days, along with a DNA sample.  Failure to do so will disqualify the calf from the contest.
